Leading receiver Eric Ward will put off draft and return to Texas Tech for senior season

There were a lot of reasons for Texas Tech?s leading receiver Eric Ward to turn pro and no one would have faulted him for it. Instead, the leading receiver in terms of yardage in back-to-back seasons will stay in Lubbock for his senior season, a source told RedRaiderSports.com?s Chris Level.

Ward earned his degree in three-and-a-half years, has a young family to care for, broke the 1,000-yard receiving mark in the Red Raiders? Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas win against Minnesota last month and scored 12 touchdowns in 2012.

The receiver was unavailable for comment, but the news alone caused a collective exhale from the Red Raider faithful.

Four of Texas Tech?s top eight receivers in 2012 have exhausted eligibility, including graduating senior Darrin Moore who also broke the 1,000-yard mark in the bowl game.

Ward and Moore became the first 1,000-yard duo at Texas Tech since Michael Crabtree and Danny Amendola accomplished the feat in 2007. Both Crabtree and Amendola are standout receivers in the NFL today.
